I consider that the concept of culture involves ideas, beliefs, customs, religions, cuisine, habits and many ways of living which are shared by different groups of people. Cultures around the world are transmitted among comunities connecting people and helping them learn from each other.
ResponderEliminarNoelia Alvez - ISDF 18 - First year
From my point of view culture is part of us because as the video says "we make it and we shape it as we love it be." That's why culture has an universal meaning and at the same time this is something that unites like people. Culture is ourselves, it means, we create culture, we live under different culture etc. As culture is an universal concept, I think that everybody has different points of view about the issue because of that the concept culture involves ideas, beliefs, customs, religions where every country has its own cultures. Maybe most of us can't understand.
ResponderEliminarDefinition of culture
ResponderEliminarFirst of all, culture is a historical construction. It has been changing according to different ideological and historical conceptions.
Second, for this activity I have chosen a definition of culture by the American anthopologist Geertz Clifford:
"Believing, with Max Weber, that man is an animal suspended in webs of significance he himself has spun, I take culture to be those webs, and the analysis of it to be therefore not an experimental science in search of law but an interpretative one in search of meaning."
Clifford Geertz (1973)

ResponderEliminarHi to the readers.
ResponderEliminarAccording to the dictionary the culture involvs the habits, traditions, and beliefs of a country or group of people. In my opinion culture is way more interesting as it seems, you can find many of traditions when you visit a foreign country for example. If you are clever enough, you can adopt many traditions or way of living by knowing local traditions habits and many more. That's why I think about culture is that there is in every way we go.
Gimenez Juan ISFD N°18
(Cambridge Dictionary)
According to the dictionary culture is the way of life, especially the general customs and beliefs, of a particular group of people (be it a nation, a city, etc) It also has to do with music, art theatre, literature and so on. I think that definition is correct but also that it fails to convey how it changes through the years becaues it undoubtedly does.

I consider the culture what we are, our roots, were we are Immersed in a society, in a specific place and time. "Culture takes diverse forms across time and space. This diversity is embodied in the uniqueness and plurality of the identities of the groups and societies making up humankind. As a source of exchange, innovation and creativity, cultural diversity is as necessary for humankind as biodiversity is for nature. In this sense, it is the common heritage of humanity and should be recognized and affirmed for the benefit of present and future generations.
ResponderEliminarTylor, E. in Seymour-Smith, C. (1986) Macmillan Dictonary of Anthropology. The Macmillan Press LTD.
The Merriam Webster Dictionary, which chose Culture as the Word of the Year in 2014, defines it as “the integrated pattern of human knowledge, belief, and behavior that depends upon the capacity for learning and transmitting knowledge to succeeding generations”.
ResponderEliminarAnd I agree. We are constantly experiencing things that shape, modify and nurture us and at the same time help us build the perception that will enable us to react and respond to our environment, thus contributing to our culture. So, to me, culture cannot be defined in a single way. There is geographical culture, consumer culture, pop culture, youth culture, global culture, and so on. And whether we are participants or spectators of the cultures that surround us, apart from our own, we can all take advantage of their influence and take part in the shared human experience of growth through the understanding of what is different.
(ISFD n°18)
Culture are the ideas, experience, beliefs and customs that are shared and accepted by people in a society. art, music, literature, religion. These shared patterns identify the members of a culture group while also distinguishing those of another group.
ResponderEliminarCulture can be defined in numerous ways. In the words of anthropologist E.B. Tylor, it is "that complex whole which includes knowledge, belief, art, morals, law, custom and any other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society. Alternatively, in a contemporary variant, "Culture is defined as a social domain that emphasizes the practices, discourses and material expressions, which, over time, express the continuities and discontinuities of social meaning of a life held in common.
ResponderEliminarThe Cambridge English Dictionary states that culture is "the way of life, especially the general customs and beliefs, of a particular group of people at a particular time.

For me, culture is everything humanity does in order to represent itself, the collective programming of the mind. Culture is unity, and it is also a way the world has to share and receive, enriching us individually and as a whole. As the video says, “the more we know about the cultures of others, the more open-minded, tolerant and global we become.”
ResponderEliminarCulture is consisted by norms, values and customs; it’s alive, active and constantly changing.
Silvana A. Rotondo - ISDF 18
In my opinion "culture" is the set of forms and expressions that characterize a given society in time. By the set of forms and expressions is understood and includes customs, beliefs, common practices, rules, norms, codes, clothing, religion, rituals and ways of being that predominate in the common people who integrate it.
ResponderEliminarAll culture is a configuration, that is, it is an organized whole that integrates the various elements. That is why we can speak of American, Italian, French, etc. culture, in the measure that each one is separated from the others and has characteristics that specifically define it.
It is a shared behavior in moderation that is not appropriated in a single individual, but in a more or less broad group of people.

In my opinon 'culture' is something that differnt society acqiere from generation to generation.it can be customs, religion, beliefs, norms, ways of living, etc. The parents are the first transmitters of this something because they consider that it is their legacy.
ResponderEliminarThe culture is produced by a community or people. It is the reason that different countries have own culture which is changuing through the years.
' Culture, is the social use knowledge '(Gbriel Garcia Marqués)
For me 'culture' is something that we create though the years. It's different for all of countries and I like that because otherwise the world would be boring. I don't have a much to say because in this video is very clear the concept.
ResponderEliminarCulture refers to the knowledge, beliefs, language, arts, religion, customs, cuisine, etc acquired by a group of people in the course of generations.
ResponderEliminarIn my opinion the culture is the beginning, is everything that create the values and customs of the people who help to conserve it.
ResponderEliminarI believe that everything around us is culture, food, music, the way we dress and talk, etc. Other cultures open our minds, teach us about different beliefs and ways of living.
ResponderEliminarI think Culture is about traditions. Involves a lot of other things, such as habits, language, art, religion, etc. But the most important for me is traditions.
ResponderEliminarFor me Culture consists of the believes, behaviors, objects and other characteristics in common, to a member of a particular group or society . Through Culture, people and groups define themselves. Although Culture is not static, it changes as everything around us changes. We all contribute to Culture, as Antonin Artaud said "Art is the expression of one, Culture is the expression of everyone"
ResponderEliminarFlorencia Lujan ISFD 18
Culture is the whole of belief, values and way of living that people share and which is different in each country
ResponderEliminarI understand culture just as the video shows in the first seconds, i mean, as a treasure, something that we take for granted or sometimes we don't give it the credit that it certainly deserves. But it's value is enormous, just like a prized possesion. It's part of our memory of course, and it's composed by convictions, traditions, music, cuisine, and so on. It makes us feel connected to some kind of way and invites people to solve their problems and to find things in common beyond differences.

Hi everyone.
ResponderEliminarI think that, at this point, we all agree more or less in what Culture is. We know we are all inmersed in this kind of magma, which embraces us and gives us a particular veneer. This refers to us not only as individual beings, but also as a group, a 'tribe' or society. And lately, and as a new phenomenon, as a global society. Not slowly, we are adopting aspects from foreign cultures, and the other way round. We seem to have imported the Halloween celebrations, and we are proud to deliver to the world sweaters knitted in the altiplano and Tango shows (and shoes...) How strange, novel and scary this is!
The anthropologist CLAUDE LÉVI-STRAUSS stated: CULTURAL DIVERSITY IS AS NECESSARY FOR HUMANKIND AS BIODIVERSITY IS FOR NATURE.
What happens to us humans, as the exchange of culture and this growing tendency for homogenization transforms us into more-alike human beings, despite our nationalities, genders, ages?
I think we should cherish and appreciate our own culture, in the same way we nourish from the outside. Because I see Culture as a living creature, always mutating, breathing in and breathing out, always reshaping itself.
Good day.

ResponderEliminarHi!
ResponderEliminarHaving seen the video and reading some webpages, I think that to define culture there are different points of views that were appearing over the years. At first, it was referring to “a process of improvements, as in agriculture”. Then it was becoming with the time, around the XX century the anthropologists defined culture as “The evolved capacity humanizes of classifying and representing the experiences with symbols and acting of imaginative and creative form”.
There were lots of different ways to define it so, I think that we always use to heap the meanings in order to generalize it. That’s why, in my opinion, we include customs, traditions, attitudes, values, norms, ideas, etc.
(ISFD N°41)
In my opinion culture involves everything. It includes the living way and everything we share in common with other people. Our lifestyle is include in culture too.I think that culture is us.We made it every day

In my opinion, culture is the group of characteristics (including language, traditions, customs, beliefs, etc.) that a country, a region or a determined group of people share. Those characteristics allow us to identify them as a particular culture over other groups of people with other cultures.
ResponderEliminarDefinition of CULTURE from MacMillan English Dictionary
A set of ideas, beliefs, and ways of behaving of a particular organization or group of people.
I agree with the definitions that were provided, and I wanted to bring up something that I found a bit intriguing.
ResponderEliminar"[...] The problem is that “culture” is more than the sum of its definitions. If anything, its value as a word depends on the tension between them.
[...] today, “culture” has a furtive, shady, ridiculous aspect. Often, when we attach the word “culture” to something, it’s to suggest that it has a pervasive, pernicious influence (as in “celebrity culture”). In 1954, when the magazine Film Culture was founded, its name made movie lovers sound glamorous. Today, it sounds vaguely condescending."

The article mentioned a term which I don't desire to bring up -for it is a very delicate matter-, but it shows perfectly how the term culture is getting a bit shady these days.

ResponderEliminarIn his book, Primitive Culture, Edward B. Tylor says:
ResponderEliminar"Culture is the full range of learned human behavior patterns".
He explains that culture is that complex whole which includes knowledge, belief, art, law, morals, custom, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society.
Culture is constantly changing and easily lost because it exists only in our minds.
While human societies and cultures are not the same thing, they are inextricably connected because culture is created and transmitted to others in a society.
If you were the only human on earth, there would be no need for language or government.
So, in my opinion, culture is all that we adquired and learned from generation to generation.

ResponderEliminarThe word culture has many definitions. These are some of their definitions:
ResponderEliminar- The Cambridge English Dictionary states that culture is "the way of life, especially the general customs and beliefs, of a particular group of people at a particular time”
- Culture is the systems of knowledge shared by a relatively large group of people.
-A culture is a way of life of a group of people--the behaviors, beliefs, values, and symbols that they accept, generally without thinking about them, and that are passed along by communication and imitation from one generation to the next.
In my opinion culture is a knowledge built by a society. This means that it can change over the years. And it is composed by everything from language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts.

ResponderEliminarCulture is the beliefs, ideas and customs that a group of people shared. And is the behaviour that most people expects from each other inside a society.
